How to Prepare for a Septic Compliance Inspection
A Compliance Inspection Doesn’t Have to Feel Overwhelming
A septic compliance inspection can feel like a big unknown, especially if you’ve never been through one before. At Altra, our goal is to make the process straightforward and stress‑free by helping you understand what to expect and how to get ready. A little preparation goes a long way toward keeping the inspection smooth and efficient.
Make Sure We Can Access Your System Components
If you know where your tank lids, pump tank, or inspection pipes are located, clearing away snow, brush, or debris ahead of time is helpful—but not required. If you’re unsure where anything is, don’t worry. We locate components every day, and we’re happy to take care of that part for you.
Have Any System Records Handy (If You Have Them)
If your system has been recently pumped or serviced, having that information available is useful. Any records you have—previous inspections, permits, or design documents—can also help us understand the history of your system. But if you don’t have paperwork on hand, that’s completely fine. We can gather what we need during the inspection or through your local permitting authority.
What Happens on Inspection Day
On the day of the inspection, you don’t need to do anything special. We’ll walk the property, evaluate the system, take measurements, and document everything required by your county or local governing unit (LGU). If we find something that needs attention, we’ll explain it clearly and talk through your options, so you know exactly what comes next.
The Purpose of a Compliance Inspection
A compliance inspection isn’t a pass‑or‑fail judgment on you as a homeowner—it’s simply a way to confirm that your system is functioning properly and meets current standards. Our role is to guide you through the process with clarity, honesty, and support so you can move forward with confidence, whether you’re buying, selling, or maintaining your property.
